Wow, a whole month of me not running my mouth, again. I am officially a slacker blogger and you can consider yourself attacked. The past month has FLOWN by-- we were so busy with Christmas then we had contractors here finishing the storage closets. They swore it would only take a day to complete. A day turned into 2, and then a canceled day, and then another work day and then a canceled day... then they finally finished after I told them they had to be done THAT. DAY. because I had to go somewhere and if they didn't finish they were going to have to come out AGAIN the next week to finish and the head honcho was like, "OH NO! I can't do that! I'll be losing money" and I was like, "Dude, you should have, I don't know, COME TO WORK ON THE FLIPPING CLOSETS THOSE 3 DAYS YOU CANCELED ON ME!" Miraculously, the closets were finished 20 minutes before I had to leave, go figure.
Buuuuuuuuuuuuut, apparently, when you ask for a bid to FINISH a closet, the bid doesn't include finishing the floor. So now I have finished closets (insulated, dry walled and painted w/ trim) but a lovely, custom paint speckled plywood floor in them, instead of something like, I don't know, CARPET?? Whatever. It is easier to slide the ninety five thousand boxes that reside in the closets on the plywood anyway.
So we had all of that and then the next week Mother Nature herself decided to give the state a big ol' "HAPPY NEW YEAR" and snowed down on us with fury and vengeance. And then she decided she wasn't satisfied with making us all stay indoors for a day because we all forget how to drive when it snows so she warmed everything up for a few hours, just so everything could slightly melt, and then dropped the temperature 28 degrees causing a 3 inch thick sheet of ice to cover EVERY THING. And everyone was like, "OH MY GOODNESS!! SAVE THE WOMEN AND CHILDREN!!" Stores sold out of everything, there was mass hysteria and everyone freaked like it was y2K again. And then there were the dudes who were like, "Yo. I gotta JEEP. I can do what I want" and would go blazing down the street, only to realize that when it was time to stop, they couldn't and that the curve that says 25 MPH should really be taken below that during an ice storm. Hunny Pie, a Jeep and 4 wheel drive aren't going to do you any good if your tires are bald and you have no common sense. Idiots.
But now, the snow has melted and everyone is back at work and school. The Christmas decorations have been put away and my closets, despite our lovely custom flooring, are clean and organized, and it only took me 42, 58 quart bins to organize it all. Finally, baby clothes are separated by size and gender instead of being thrown in whatever box they fit in. My "fat" and "skinny" clothes have their own place, all of the random attic crap has been sorted through and put in its proper spot (mostly the garbage). And I have finally done it: I got rid of all of my college text books and research from the papers I may or may not have started 24 hours before they were due. I'm sure somewhere, someone is having a thrill a minute dumpster diving while reading about Presidential Image and Campaign Finance Reform.
I am doing my best to get the rest of my life in order but seeing as how there are currently 250 cookie cutters littering my living room floor, compliments of the babies (who are now 18 months old!!), I don't think I'm getting very far.

changes
It is totally that time of year again-- MY new year. Fall is always my season of change and when life seems to "revamp". 4 years ago I was getting ready to move to Germany, 3 years ago we were getting ready to move back to the States, 2 years ago I had just moved back to Germany and was getting ready for M to come back from Iraq and last year I was finally starting to settle into my new life with 4 kids.
This year is no different, we're settling into a new house, had a slight change in career, the babies are becoming real toddlers (*snif*), we're changing the way we spend our money and the way we eat and live and we're trying to get used to our new routines. While all of that seems kind of mundane and seemingly simple, there has really been a true lifestyle change and it feels kind of drastic at times.
I'm hoping I can get to the point where I feel like I've got it together, soon. But last time I said I felt like I had it together, BOOM!, I got pregnant with twins. Sooooooo, I'm not really thinkin I really ever want to say I've got it together again because I know God would be like, "really?? That's what you think!! Let's see what you do with this" and then BOOM! something else life jarring and altering would happen. But I would like to be able to just sit back and enjoy life, instead of constantly feeling 1 step behind. And we're getting there, we really are, although I have been saying that for over a year now.
I plan on sharing more over the next couple of months, including what is going on here and doing some major series pieces on baby gear, diapering, including a huge diaper review of my all time favorite diapers, reviews on our strollers (which I've been meaning to get to for the past year), what I've been doing around the house and some other things, which may or may not include a wicked awesome giveaway. I know you guys are all super stoked to learn all about cloth diapers and strollers, I really do. There will be some fun stuff thrown in between, I promise :)
PS. Please let me know if any part of the new page design doesn't load for you-- I haven't been able to test it out on IE or Opera yet. I still can't even decide if I like the design or not...

reacquainted
Since it has been, um, forever, since I have shown my face here, I figured it would be a good idea to get reacquainted with my readers, if there are any left. So here's a brief rundown of who we are, and what makes us tick.
Me: I'm just me. I'm a mom of 4, a woman who happens to be married to someone in the Army, who is just trying to find a balance between what I want to do and what I should be doing. I know a little about a lot and am a jack of all trades but a master at nothing. I love my babies more than anyone should and I love this ridiculous life we live through all of the good and bad.
M: My husband. He's an amazing father and an awesome soldier. He's a tiny bit crazy, but we don't tell him that because he takes it as a compliment and it encourages him to be even more crazy. He works really hard at everything he does and it shows. When he isn't working or playing with the kids, he's in the gym or training for whatever his next big "event" is. He has done a few half marathons and a marathon and currently getting ready for a triathlon. And, he drives a minivan. And makes it look cool.
W: Our 4 year old son. W is a funny kid. He's a nerd. Yes, I said it. The kid is a total nerd and I love him for it. He's already reading kindergarten books and writing and spelling, loves math and science and would be perfectly content if you locked him in a room for hours with an activity book. He is such a wonderful brother to his little sisters and takes really good care of them, when he wants to, which is most of the time. He already carries more responsibility than I would like him to, but he doesn't complain about it. His sisters love him so much and I can always count on him to make them laugh when they are crying. He has a tough side too. He doesn't cry when he falls down or when he gets a shot and is totally intrigued by splinters, yet at the end of the day he will always say, "come cuddle with me in bed, mommy".
CB: Our 3 year old daughter. This girl is my challenge. She is the sweetest little thing you could ever imagine, except for when she's not. She can throw a fit like a 13 year old, but then love on you like none other in the next second. She can make you laugh like crazy and then make you want to pull your hair out. I have a feeling she is going to be some kind of entertainer when she grows up-- she was singing before she could talk and is constantly making up songs and dances for us. Her creativity blows me away as she's always coming up with a story to tell or coloring a beautiful picture. She has Sensory Processing Disorder, SPD, and is Sensory Defensive, which makes life very complicated. The littlest things can throw her off: socks, sleeves, something on her hands, noise or light, textures and temperatures, people touching her and/ or talking to her. She is the only child I know who will ask to go to bed and if we can't find her, the first place we look is in her room because she will most likely have put herself in bed-- it's her coping mechanism. She also has a wide range of food intolerances which have made us all very conscious of what we put in our bodies and taught me how to cook in an entirely different way.
A: One of the twins. A is a momma's girl, no one else will do, except for her brother because he is also W's baby. A and W have some kind of special bond. They have always gravitated towards each other which is funny because they look alike. She isn't very active but loves to observe. And she's a tiny bit of a bully. If she sees something she wants, she's going to get it. She wants what she wants when she wants it and she's not going to stop until she gets it. When you get her going, wow, she really gets going. But she has a sweet side too. She loves to cuddle and be held and has the tiniest little laugh.
MJ: One of the twins. MJ is a daddy's girl and the most laid back baby I've ever seen, which is funny because when they were newborns, she was always the first to cry and much more difficult than A. Now she is completely content and quick to smile and boy does she love to talk. She talks all day and even in her sleep. She makes the most adorable sounds and is extremely expressive. If she doesn't like how something feels or tastes she will wrinkle up her little face. She does the same when she's really happy too. MJ is a go getter and even though she's always been a little smaller than A, she's been the first to roll and sit and the first to cut teeth.
Both babies have the same food intolerances that CB has so food is a big issue in our house. They have spent the better part of their past 9 months spitting up like crazy and being uncomfortable. Any kind of dairy, even a super small amount, will give them bloody diapers so we have to be very careful to keep it completely out of their diet. Because of all their food issues, they are very small. At 9 months, both of them are about 13 pounds. Thankfully, people don't really comment on their weight like they did with W and CB. I think everyone is so fixated on the "twins thing" they don't think to comment on how small they really are.
So much really has happened in the past 5 months, including a cross country move, 7 weeks of me being quite sick and all of the other boring mundane day to day stuff. I'm going to do my best to catch up on the important stuff later. I also plan on boring you with lots and lots of information about cloth diapering, cloth diapering twins, car seats, baby gear, pumping for twins and one of my most favoritest topics: STROLLERS!!

COMING SOON!
I've had numerous people email me to ask if I am still alive. And I am, I've just been unbelievably out of my mind over the edge insanely busy. We are all doing great and there is too much talk about. So much has happened in the past 5 (!!) months and I can't wait to get back to updating this thing.
I hope to have a new design and some new posts coming in the next week or two. I probably need to go on a major advertising campaign when I get up and running again because I am sure everyone has given up on me. :)

hand slapped
I am a bad blogger. I'm sorry. Yes, it's been 2 weeks since I've posted anything, or responded to emails... or FB messages... or phone calls... I've slapped my hand and promised to do better. But don't hold me to it.
We are all fine and good, I promise. There really isn't anything going on, but we have still been super busy. The kids have been sick with colds and have been out of school for the better part of the last 2 weeks. They got better, went to school for 1 day, and now both of them have colds again. So, they are out of school for the rest of this week too. I felt a little better for a few days, which was nice. I even went 3 days without taking a nap! But it all caught up to me last weekend and I ended up sleeping all day Saturday between gagging and avoiding all food like it was going to kill me and still woke up tired and gagging on Sunday.
So far this week has been more peaceful than last week was. Last week I was at the hospital 4 times: 2 times for shots, one time for an appointment (both babies look good and are measuring right on track) and once because I was an idiot and lost my prescription for my test strips and lancets so I had to get another one. I'm sure the nurses are as tired of me as I am of them. This week I only need to go in twice for shots which is good news because that means I can stay in my PJs on the days I don't have to go out. And that is great news because that means less laundry for me, which is fantastic news because I still have about 6 loads of laundry that have been rotated on and off the bedroom floor and through the wash again for the better part of 6 weeks that needs to be folded and put away.
I just don't have the energy or the strength to do much. I have no shame in letting everyone know that my kids have now have a nanny named Dora, who rotates days
with Blue and Steve and Diego. Occasionally, Pablo or Manny will fill in when needed and George is always a good standby. A mama's got to get help where she can, right?
What I really need is a cook; someone to come make food for me, whatever I want at the exact moment that I want it. If I want food, I want it right then because in 3 minutes, I will be hating food and gagging again. A cook would actually be much more beneficial for my kids and husband. I think the boys are tired of pizza and pasta and I know they are tired of eating the things that I kind of maybe like, on a good day. They can only eat so much chicken, tuna with noodles, and green beans the way I want them-- covered in Cream of Mushroom soup and baked to perfection. And even then I end up scrapping off most of the soup and can only manage a few bites here and there.
I was told last week that I should be eating at least 2700-3500 calories a day, and I need to gain at least 20 pounds in the next 9 weeks, and 40-50 pounds overall. Ha! Riiiiiiiiiight. Right now I'm lucky to be able to take in (and keep down) 1/3 of those recommended calories a day, at best. So if you have any fool proof suggestions for getting those kind of calories down, and keeping them down, please share. Ensure or any kind of "calorie drink" are not an option and neither is anything with sugar. Same goes for red meat, fast food, things that are fried, things that are salty, mayo, things that are thick in texture (yogurt, pudding, jello, smoothies, oatmeal)...
I'm sure women have grown babies on worse than green bean casserole and rice. CB grew off of nothing but Whoppers (no mayo, no cheese) from Burger King while she was in the womb, but her 3rd toes are longer than her 2nd so that is probably not a very good example. Let's just hope for the best with these two.

sorry bout the mess
Yes, I am under construction. My simple template switch has turned into a coding nightmare and is taking longer than I thought it would. If you have google reader or another blog reader, you will probably see multiple posts from me that end up not existing after all. I am trying to format something but my coding is just a little bit off and I have to find out where. In order to fix the problem I have to post and then delete and yada yada yada. I could make a test blog but, no. That would be too hard. Anyway, if I can't figure it out in the next day I will stop messing with it, I promise.
Also, if something looks "off" to you on your browser, please let me know so I can fix it. Gracias!

blah blah blah
I'm being harassed by my sister to post something, anything, so here goes. I know I haven't logged into my Myspace or Facebook for like a month or set up the iChat or even called anyone and that my turn around time for emails is averaging about 4 days right now and I'm sorry! I really, really am! I'm trying to be a better person but it is just not working!
I have good intentions though. Doesn't that count for something? There are a bunch of projects that I really want to do and finish, but it's not happening right now.I really have been working on a blog post and even a total overhaul of the look of the thing (about time, right?) for the past week but every time I get a chance to sit down, I realize that I don't have any kind of creative energy left in me and I shut the computer down and go to bed. Same thing goes for emails and phone calls. I just don't have it in me right now. Blah blah blah, excuses excuses, I know.
For what it is worth, I have been doing really good at keeping on top of the chores and I even got all of our new pictures hung. That is no small task considering the fact that the walls practically crumble the second a hammer gets near them. The kids are happy, for the most part, and well fed. The laundry is completely done, except for the 42 sets of sheets I volunteered to wash for all of the single soldiers in M's battery but that doesn't count as MY laundry, so it doesn't count against me. The floor has been vacuumed and swept 4 times in the past 6 days and the toys are totally organized. On that front, we are rockin. It's just all of the fun stuff that is falling behind. Stupid responsibility!
I'll be honest, we are in a huge time of transition but when are we not, right? I had forgotten just how hard it was to switch from Civilian life back to Military life and how hard it was to move from one country to another. Give me another month. Don't give up on us yet. One more month, maybe 6 weeks, and I will be a much better friend and sister and daughter and granddaughter and wife and mother and doula and hostess, etc... I promise.

a teenie tiny update
Thank you to everyone for your emails and calls to see how W is doing. I'm so sorry I haven't been able to update. I haven't had a chance and I'm in the process of switching computers which messes everything up. Well, not so much messes everything up as much as I'm just too lazy to actually log into my blogger account on the new computer. Pitiful excuse, I know. But I have reached that point. I am that tired and 110% tapped out, scraping the bottom of the tank just to keep going for one more mile. I have a few seconds now as I sit here stealing Wi-Fi again, this time from a coffee shop as I eat my breakfast souffle. You know you are jealous of the dental hygienist who gets to clean my teeth in a half hour.
W is doing much better. We had a scare a few days ago and I ended up racing him back up to the hospital. In the process he managed to spill a chocolate milk shake all over himself and his carseat which made for an interesting hour and a half ride and a two hour cleaning process for me yesterday. Thank goodness CB wasn't with us so he could sit in her seat for the rest of the day. When we got to the hospital, the doctor forced his mouth open, which might as well have been considered a form of torture for both of us, and declared him stubborn. Duh.
He gave me the choice to have him admitted for more IV fluids and pain meds or to get different pain meds and go home. I chose to go home. I told W that if he didn't start eating and drinking he would have to have an IV put back in his arm and I believe his exact words were, "Pass the water, woman". The past 2 days have been much better than the previous 8 and I felt comfortable enough to leave him with his Opa and Oma yesterday and took him to school today.
His teachers were shocked today when I arrived with W's lunch and it was filled with junk. Apparently I have a reputation there because I only send him to school with healthy food. That is not normal? Dang. But look out because today he has Jello AND fruit snacks AND a piece of bread smeared with Nutella. I doubt he eats any of it because all he has eaten for the past 7 days is ice cream. We have gone through 3 half gallon containers of it and he screams for it in the middle of the night. I'm going to be doomed when I try to get him back to eating regular food. Now that he knows the delectible goodness that is ice cream, I'm not sure that he will change his ways without a fight. At least it's calories though. That kid can have as many chicken nuggets and tacos for the next few months. I'm desperate to put some weight on him as he's lost about 4 pounds and looks like a kid you see in a "sponser this child for 80 cents a day" commercial.
I will hope and pray that we have seen the last of the tonsil/ adenoid issues and that we won't have to go through anything like this again. Oh yes, for those of you who have asked, and I never answered, his surgery was to put tubes in his ears and take out his tonsils and adenoids. Just a little, routine procedure. I guess nothing is ever "routine" or "little" with us.
Duh.

still here...
We're still here, I promise. Just super busy and the kids have been sick... again. I've been uber domesticated these days and it's cutting into my online time, not to mention my projects are draining what little brain capacity for thinking I have left right out of me so I am unable to come up with anything worthy of writing about.
I don't want to talk about my projects yet because I'm making things for people who waste their time reading this and I don't want to ruin the surprise just yet. But let's just say I've been up to my ears in tulle, or "itchy stuff" as W calls it.
I've decided I'm NEVER paying for anything made with tulle again. I'll do it myself. That stuff has to be the most genius way to make money. It costs $.97 a yard, and most projects like the projects I am working on take 5-6 yards but are sold for at least $45 each. If I had the patience, I'd go into business.
Case in point: my wedding veil. I had decided that I didn't want a veil for my wedding but changed my mind 2 days before the ceremony. So I went to the fabric store and bought my 8 yards of tulle for $9, a comb clip thing, a string of beads and a spindle of thread and 3 hours later, I had this:

The day after I made it, I had to go to the bridal boutique to pick something up and I saw a very similar veil "on sale" for $250. While my handmade, $9, 3 hour veil may not have been the greatest one ever made, it was pretty freaking close and totally worth the $241 I didn't spend.
You know that saying that people have "champagne taste on a beer budget"? That is totally true for me, except I can make the beer look and taste just like champagne. It's a gift, really and comes in handy in times like these when I have 6 baby showers
and birthday parties to go to in the next month. And for times when people are getting married. I still think my friend J and I should start a company. We can plan weddings quick and on a small budget and have them look amazing. We will call it "Shotgun Weddings" and part of the deluxe package will include my doula services for the couple 6 months after the wedding.
Speaking of weddings, although, not a shotgun wedding, happy 4 years to M and me (a little late but at least I'm making the effort, right?) It's been an indescribable 4 years, that's for sure.

yeah, I know.
You can stop with the emails already. I know I suck. I know I'm a slacker and I know I'm a big fat letdown. I honestly have been trying to blog about our trip, I swear. I've been working on it for a little over a week but just haven't been able to finish. There is just too much stupid stuff to do like bathing my kids and feeding them... trying to keep them entertained so they don't turn on each other. Oh and there's the laundry and the cleaning and the cooking and the shopping. Responsibility really sucks sometimes.
We've been so busy since M left, I haven't even been able to unpack. I haven't gotten more than 4 hours of sleep in a night since 2 days before he left and I'm beat. The kids have had horrid allergies and have been pretty cranky, especially W. He's been refusing to go to bed and doesn't fall asleep until 10:30 or 11 now. By the time he's finally down, I get to do all of the chores I neglected during the day and then before I know it, it's 2am and I'm able to sit down but then end up falling asleep on the couch watching infomercials.
I'm sorry, I really am. I promise to try to be a better blogger soon. But not tonight. Tonight I'm taking W to a Giant's game. Wish us luck. In the meantime, here's a look at some of our family pictures that my friend J so kindly came out and took for us. Getting 4 people to look at the camera and to look good at the same time is pretty much impossible but she somehow managed to take fantastic pictures.

a small update
No, I haven't disappeared, much to the dismay of some. I'm still here, chugging along. Me and my big caboose of a behind. That thing that I said I was brewing got ripped up, stomped on and composted, so we had to change our plans and do something else. Doing that something else is taking up all of my time and energy and is turning me into a bad mother because I end up ignoring my kids. But who really cares if W has started memorizing jingles for commercials on TV because he's watched so much? At least he's learning. What he's actually learning is besides the point.
If this something else works out like it should in order to work at all, the next 6 weeks are going to be out of control. Like, even more than normal. Exciting, but insane would be the best way to describe it. If it doesn't work out, then I have no idea what I'm going to do because this is plan F, and there aren't any other plans in the works. That's living life on the edge.
Perhaps one day soon I'll be back to true blogging form. But that will only be after the baby has cut these 4 teeth she's trying to cut and is sleeping again. Anything more than a 20 minute nap would be awesome. Speak of the little devil ... she's up from her nap, again.

feast or famine
My life is bipolar. I've come to the conclusion that despite what many may think, it's not me that is bipolar, it's my life. And thank goodness for that because there's no way I would want to take any of those medications that you see on tv that treat the disorder. The list of possible side effects takes up two thirds of the thirty second commercial. Hello, anal leakage? No thank you.
I can go five weeks without having anything to do, nowhere to go, and being so bored that I actually clean the house. And then I can have five weeks where I blow through three tanks of gas in a week, have so much to do that I can't even remember to eat and have everything get so disorganized that I can't find two shoes that match.
I'm currently in a manic phase. I've been so busy that when I look back on the day, it seems like the things I did that morning were actually done the day before. There is so much going on and so much that is unknown and it's freakin' freaking me out. I don't mind the busy part, I actually enjoy being busy. It's the unknowns that are bothering me.
If I don't get around to updating this much in the next few weeks, forgive me. It's because I'm brewing something big that I can't write about yet. But rest assured, I will fill you in on the madness as soon as I can.

progress report
I know I probably shouldn't feel that bad about not updating this, as all of my friends who have blogs have been serious slackers when it comes to updating theirs, but I do feel bad. They probably have great excuses like being busy with important things such as Christmas shopping and spreading holiday cheer, two things I have absolutely no interest in doing this year, but I don't have any excuse, really. I don't even know what I do all day anymore. It's pretty much just one big blur from 6 am to midnight.
I know I've been busy running around the metropolitan areas trying to get supplies for my budding business venture. I also know that I've managed to spend a lot of money on gas these past few weeks with all the driving I've done. Not that it's that hard to spend money on gas these days. I know I've been reading a lot and researching tons so I can be good at what I do. I thought I had been doing a good job of keeping in contact with my friends, but then I got an email from my best friend T "gently" reminding me that she had sent me an email like 4 days ago and I still hadn't replied. I'm pretty sure her exact words were "U Butt! oh my gaw! you are the worst person to get a hold of. has anyone ever told you that?". Man, I miss that chick more than words can say. She is the only person on this earth who can say that to me without me waving my finger and going all "FIRST OF ALL" on her. I was sure I had emailed her back, because deep down I really am a good friend, but then I looked at my inbox and realized that I had about 14 emails from the past week that I had read, but never responded to. That could have something to do with the fact that the only time I am getting online these days to do "fun" stuff is when I'm feeding the baby and I can't really type well with 1 hand. Goodness, I need my Boppy. Too bad I'm too cheap to go buy another one.
It's not just the personal stuff that's keeping me busy. The kids are pretty much out of control these days. W has decided that I must hold him at all times all day and CB has decided that she is going to get her fiber intake from eating little invisible specks of something in the carpet and paper. Lots of paper. I try to keep it away from her but her brother thinks it's funny when he gives it to her and I start to yell. Then I get mad at him for him thinking it's funny and then he throws things. Because that is what you do when you are angry. You throw whatever you can, even if you have to rip the pacifier from your own mouth, just to launch it to prove your point. He's such an activist. Actually I should give him some credit because today, he got angry at me and went to toss his little IKEA chair that's part of his table set across the room, but he realized he would get in big fat trouble if he did that. So he stopped himself and proceeded to gently put the chair down and turn it on its side. Then he did the same with the other one, turned to look at me, smiled, and walked away. I'm doomed.
Retrospectively (is that even a word?), I guess I have been busy and will probably stay this busy until I manage to pull my head out of my butt and get things clear and organized. Who knows when, and if, that will ever happen. I keep saying things will get better. They were supposed to get better when we moved back to CA, then they were supposed to get better once we got settled, then it was Halloween, then it was Thanksgiving and now it's going to get better once Christmas (that I don't even want to do) is over. Maybe there is a light at the end of this crazy spiraling vortex.

mr. habla
I'm getting some feedback that the giraffe is missed. I love that giraffe, as does W. So much so that he too asks for him whenever I am sitting at the computer. For some reason, he named him "Habla" and this is what he now calls every giraffe he sees. No matter how many times we tell him it's a giraffe and not an "habla", he still says "habla". I have no idea... but this is coming from the kid who runs around the house saying "hola" non stop. He's never even watched Dora, but seems to be obsessed with Spanish. Maybe it's the California in him? Not too sure.
Unfortunately, I don't have Mr. Halba saved on this computer. He's on M's computer, alone in Germany. Poor guy. Sorry!

update, kinda
So I know I've been really bad about updating this, but life is way out of control right now and I'm desperately trying to play catch up. Once I have a clear head, I will update everyone on all of the craziness that has gone on in the past few weeks. Sorry!

just to tide you over
Here's something truly hilarious, written by someone who is so much more funny than I am. You guys may never read my blog again after reading legitimate humor like this:

uninspired
I'm going to have to take a short (read: just a few days) break from blogging. I've been feeling uninspired lately and I'm really REALLY busy with life. Shocking, I know.
Tomorrow I have to take W to the dentist because he chipped his tooth and I need to make sure it's not cracked more than I can see. Plus I want to see if they can file the jagged edge so it doesn't hurt as much when he bites me during his fits of rage after I tell him he can't stick a round peg into a square hole... wait, that's not the correct wording, is it?... or he can't use his sister's head as leverage for when he jumps. Then I have to go buy our plane tickets back to the States (yay!) and pick up some prescriptions (let's hear it for legal drugs!! Double YAY!!). I have to get the mail, too. This is a much larger undertaking than it should be but I have to pick up all of the useless crap I've ordered in the past few weeks during my late night retail therapy sessions before they shut down my mailbox. Then we are supposed to have dinner at a friend's house. I'm exhausted just thinking about it.
This weekend will be filled with the normal mundane stuff we always do but I can't promise that I will find anything inspirational in cleaning the toilets or removing dead plants from their pots, especially while running on an average of 3 hours sleep per night.
I'll be back soon. Try not to miss me too much. I know, it will be hard, but you can do it.

someone drank some haterade
It looks like I've hit the big time, people. I'm a real blogger now! I got my first piece of hate mail, anonymously, of course. In a nut shell, it read,
"Nobody thinks you are funny."
Can you see me liking my wounds? Ouch. Way to hit below the belt.(All of that being said with so much sarcasm, it makes Chandler from Friends sound like a serious person.) That's ok, you don't have to think I'm funny. I'm not trying to be funny. I just write whatever pops into my little brain. It's not like I'm sitting here at my computer for hours on end trying to come up with something hilarious to say. I have much better things to do like keeping my daughter from eating paper and my son from riding the vacuum like a skateboard. So if you don't think I'm funny and/ or like what I write, that can only be because:
1. You are JUST like me and what I say and how I say it hits way too close to home for you to think I'm funny.
or
2. You have no sense of humor and are a miserable person. Too miserable to find humor in any situation and therefore, you feel the need to make everyone else around you miserable too.
I guess there could be a 3rd reason: that I'm really not funny at all. But I crack myself up all the time so that couldn't be the reason.
PS. If you don't think I'm funny, what the H are you doing wasting your time by reading my blog? Go do something that makes you happy, like stealing candy from small children or egging a house.

slow on the uptake
If you're looking for more riveting posts from me, I'm sorry to say I'm going to be hit and miss this week. By the time Sunday comes around, I will have driven to and from Frankfurt 4 times in less than 9 days... 3+ hours each way.
Plus, it hit 102 degrees today and because we don't have air conditioning, we will be seeking refuge from the heat elsewhere.
So that's pretty much the long way of saying that things are going to be slow around here and that I won't be updating this as often as I should.

an explanation
Some of you may wonder about my writing style. Here's the deal: I write like I speak. Unless I'm writing a term paper. If I'm doing that, then I come up with all kinds of thesaurus worthy vocabulary and use sentence structure that would dazzle even the most anal English professor. But that's a lot of work, so I don't do it. The next time I do writing like that will be when I'm writing my children's term papers so they get A's and get into a fantastic college on a full ride so I don't have to pay for it. Isn't that what all the parents do these days? I can't even tell you how excited I am to do a science fair project from scratch the night before it's due and let my little man take all the credit as he stands next to his perfect photo board in his preppy polo and heavily starched khaki pants.
Much of my writing style comes from the constant barrage of emails I receive from friends on a daily basis. It's normally nothing but mindless banter, witty comments and harmless teasing. Occasionally, we can come up with a good pun. That's a good day when that happens.
But the most influence on my writing has come from my best friend, T. T and I met 6 years ago while we were both working the worst job known to man. Ok, well maybe not the worst job known to man. I mean, we weren't bottling deer pee or artificially inseminating cows or even picking up dead armadillos from a sweltering Texas highway in the middle of the summer. We were just working with annoying, entitled tourists but still, it was pretty bad.
T and I hit it off from the start and we haven't stopped talking since. For 6 years, we've laughed about the same stories over and over. We think they are funny but apparently, our husbands think otherwise. Since she lives in the land of Snow and Santa Claus, not to mention the occasional igloo and penguin and I've lived in the land of cows, rain, more cows and now live in the land of beer, leiderhousen, and soft pretzels, we have to communicate by email. We are both too cheap to call unless we are using night and weekend minutes. Reading her emails makes me feel like I'm talking to her. Only she can fit Paris Hilton, big trucks, tapered pants and bad hair into the same paragraph and make it work. As Tyra Banks would say, "She's fierce". Since she writes this way to me, I write the same way back to her and it works. It's just a running commentary on the inner workings of my brain. It's almost therapeutic. And, since I can go for days without talking to another adult in person, it's nice to be able to write out my thoughts, word for word. Consider this my Zoloft substitute.
